SAGA: 2 days in Santa Fe

My family has lived in Santa Fe for the past twenty years. Below are all the things I love to do whenever I’m back home!

  1. Park at the bottom of Canyon Road and walk up the hill where you’ll find the third largest art market in the world lining the street. You’ll see the wildest most wonderful art that Santa Fe has to offer, from local art galleries to giant windmills, to questionable statues of dolphins.

  2. At the top of Canyon Road have lunch at The Tea House! Order a pot of Vanilla Tea and make sure you get an order of the black sticky rice oatmeal for the table, I promise it’s amazing.

  3. If it’s Saturday go visit the Farmer’s Market by The Railyard and take the African Dance class. This is one of the most fun experiences in the city, even if you don’t dance and just watch the live drummers. Definitely hit up the farmer’s market afterwards — it has such a unique set of vendors.

  4. Have dinner at Tomasitas - it gets really busy and they don’t take reservations, but sneak to the bar and get one of their incredible margaritas while you wait. Sopas with honey come with every meal so save some room, too. Everywhere you go in New Mexico you will be asked “red or green chile” I always order “xmas” which will get you both red and green.

  5. Visit the Santa Fe Plaza and shop at Indian Market! Make sure to visit the local artists selling on the sidewalks before shopping in the stores.

  6. While you’re in the plaza check out my favorite little shop, Maya, it’s like a local boutique Santa Fe version of Anthropologie.

  7. If you have some extra funds rent out one of the private hot spring tubs at Ojo Caliente, you don’t have to be a guest to visit their natural spa. If you’re on a budget, visit the hot springs at Ten Thousand Waves!

  8. For incredible vegan food and a spiritual exercise class, go to Nia Body of Santa Fe and take a life changing class with Kelly.

  9. For breakfast or lunch head to Harry’s Roadhouse! I worked there for a couple of years as a server and can attest to the fact that their weekend cinnamon rolls and coffee cake are so good they always sell out. For lunch my favorite item was their chop salad and cornbread.

  10. For gifts and trinkets, you should visit New Nuevo in Albuquerque on your way to the airport! They always have the best stuff and only stock local vendors.

  11. There’s so much more! Plan a trip around Indian Market, a winter trip at Ski Santa Fe, a Sunset River Float at New Mexico River Adventures, and come see the Luminarias light up the city at Christmas time. For a life changing experience plan your trip around The Burning of Zozobra.
